Lexington, KY – Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear stopped by to read to some children at UK's Early Childhood Lab. It's part of a week long tour she's making to help promote literacy. Mrs. Beshear says the earlier kids can develop a love of reading, the better.

"Reading and the ability to read no matter what age it begins, from birth, on, really sets the foundation for education for the future. And these children that I'm here with right now at this center will be probably will be those that will be taking care of all the rest of us in later years."

The first annual Kentucky Literacy Celebration, a collaborative effort by several state agencies, runs through Friday.
