Fireworks Moving To Commonwealth Stadium

Lexington’s fireworks display is moving out of downtown to the outskirts of UK’s campus. 

This year Fourth of July fireworks will fill the sky next to Commonwealth Stadium.  The stadium won’t be open but the lots will be for you to park and enjoy the show.  The fireworks will be launched from a site across Alumni Drive from the arboretum.

Mayor Jim Gray said “We think this will be a great place to watch the fireworks.” Gray thanked UK and the Arboretum for working with the city on the event.   

The city will have a fireworks test Monday at 9:00 p.m so if you live near the stadium you’ll know if you’ll will be able to see the display from your yard.  That test will last three minutes. 

Here’s what will be closed

·       The UK Arboretum--closed to pedestrians and vehicles at 8 p.m.

·       Alumni Drive, between University Drive and Tates Creek Road, will be closed from 8:45-9:30 p.m.

·       College Way will be closed from 8:45-9:30 p.m.
