LEXINGTON, Ky. – A Lexington native who piloted a plane that crashed in the western North Carolina mountains Wednesday reported a fire on-board the aircraft before it went down.
National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Peter Knudson says the Beech Baron 58 was flying from Atlanta to Hazard, Ky.
All four people on board were killed.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims, but the Lexington Herald-Leader reports that family members have confirmed they are three Knott county women in their 20's: Kassie Robinson, Miranda Morgan, and Tiffany Maggard. The pilot was 26-year-old Matt Shuey, who was a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and Centre College.
