Finalist For Fayette County Schools Superintendent Visits Lexington

Karyn Czar

The first candidate who is up for the job of Fayette County Schools Superintendent is in Lexington. Emanuel Caulk toured the district and met with parents, teachers and students on Tuesday.

We talked with him during a reception last night held at Dunbar high school and wanted to know, what unique qualities he bring to the district.  He said“The skill sets as a CEO.  I’m currently a CEO in Portland.  If you look at our demographics it’s very similar to Lexington in terms of composition.  You look at some of the assets I shared with you; we have some of those assets in Portland as well so that executive experience cannot be understated.  A person who’s been able to make those decisions in the eye of the storm if you will in Portland and be able to get the community behind the district really to create one mission, one vision and one district.  Beyond all of that is that experience with large urban systems and small urban systems across the country.  If you know of an educational innovation or strategy or initiative, changes are I’ve tried it.”

Currently, Caulk is the superintendent of schools in Portland, Maine.  A second finalist, Terri Breeden, will be in Lexington on Thursday and Friday.  Breeden is an assistant superintendent in Virginia.
