Fayette County Students Start A New School Year

LEXINGTON, Ky.-- It’s time to hit the books once again in Fayette County.  As Karyn Czar reports the second largest school district in the state is looking to the state's flagship university  to help them develop a new way of learning.

Many of us may remember straight even rows of desks and chairs when we went to school but the settings and structures for learning is changing.  Take the new STEAM Academy on sixth street.  Following the pledge of allegiance were greeted with a rendering of My Old Kentucky Home by the UK opera singers.

STEAM academy will be a full four year high school, beginning this year with only freshmen.  These kids will help design the school’s curriculum and future space.

More than 40,000 thousand kids are registered this year in Fayette County, many of them attending non-traditional structured settings.
