Fayette County Board Of Health Votes HealthFirst Executive Director Out
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Fayette County Board of Health has voted to fire HealthFirst Bluegrass executive director William North following long-running concerns about the handling of an $11.7M dollar clinic project on Southland Drive.
The Board of Health and HealthFirst operate independently, but HealthFirst receives about $1.2M from the county in health tax dollars.
In addition to firing North, the Board of Health also voted to ask HealthFirst board members to resign and called for health department financial executive Jack Cornett to take over on an interim basis. If HealthFirst fails to act, the board also voted to cut off future funding to the agency. Board of Health chairman Scott White characterized HealthFirst’s board as "recalcitrant" in dealing with financial concerns, which prompted a review of the organization by State Auditor Adam Edelen.
The HealthFirst board is scheduled to meet Thursday.
