LEXINGTON, Ky. – A new program will keep rising Fayette County kindergartners busy this summer.
Four-year-old Josiah is already looking forward to next school year, when he'll be a kindergartner at Northern Elementary.
"Books and art and paint," says Josiah.
He's one of 2,000 students who will start kindergarten at Fayette County Public Schools this fall.
Mom Yessenia Ramage has been getting her son ready.
"Trying to make sure that he's well-prepared with colors and shapes and math and the reading, the literacy checklists."
Josiah will also go to several events around Lexington designed especially for new kindergartners.
Fayette County Public Schools made the announcement Tuesday in partnership with the United Way, the Child Care Council, and PNC.
Countdown to Kindergarten includes events with the Lexington Children's Theatre, the philharmonic and ballet, and a "Going to School" rally at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
