Fayette Co. Reps Nominate Candidate For Senate Special Election
Fayette County Republicans have nominated Michael E. Johnson to run in the special election in the State Senate's 13th district .
Johnson, a full time minister, outpaced Urban County Councilman Chuck Ellinger for the nod.
In a news release state Republican Party Chair Steve Robertson said:
"We are excited to have Michael E. Johnson as our Republican candidate in this election. With his strong community ties and a Republican vision, we are confident that he will serve Lexington’s 13th district well and contribute to keeping our Republican majority in the Kentucky state senate."
After gaining the nomination Johnson said:
“Fifteen years of ministry in the 13th district has created this opportunity for me to serve all of the community and bring change for our next generation through the conservative values that I’ve learned as a member of the Republican Party. I look forward to discussing the issues important to the 13th district during this election, especially education, job creation, and hope for our youth. I am so very grateful for this opportunity to make an impact on my community and bring a message that transcends party lines.”
Johnson will face Democrat Reggie Thomas and Independent Richard Moloney in the special election to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Democrat Kathy Stein.
