Fayette Board of Education Accepts Superintendent Resignation

After a recent resignation, Fayette County Schools continue their search for a new  superintendent.

At a meeting Thursday, the Fayette County Board of Education formally accepted the resignation of Superintendent Tom Shelton.  With this action, the post is now considered vacant, and Chairman John Price says the Board has 30 days to work up a screening committee for an interim candidate.

“We have to get the screening committee elected, which is set by statute, two teachers, a principal, a classified board member, appointed by the board.  That committee has to be put in place.  We’ll of course have to work on a request for proposal from search firms to help us look for a superintendent, to help us gather candidates,” he said.

The acting coandidate will be selected from a list of retired Kentucky Superintendents, and is likely to be hired in early December.  The board aims to have Dr.  Shelton’s permanent replacement start work on July 1st.
