And today it begins, the school day just got longer for Fayette county students. From now until school ends on May 29th, the time spent in the classroom will be extended by 30 minutes.
The move came after the amount of days missed because of treacherous winter weather began to accumulate as quickly as the snowfall. The Board of Education approved the calendar changes which ensure that Fayette County Public Schools are meeting the required state minimum instructional time.
This past winter, school was canceled seven times and start delays added an additional six hours of classroom time missed that has to be made-up before the end of the school year.
