Ex-UK Administrator Will Be Rupp Project Manager

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A former vice president at the University of Kentucky has been tapped as the new project manager for the Rupp Arena Arts and Entertainment District.

Frank Butler, who oversaw finance and administration at UK, served as a member of the Rupp District task force. Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says Butler will help move the project forward by examining possible revenue streams.

“It’s a perfect fit really at a time when he was leaving his post at the university and looking for another role that will engage him in a really vigorous way, and this is that opportunity,” says Gray.

Earlier this year the Rupp task force recommended a renovation of the arena, construction of a new convention center, and the development of more residential and educational space downtown.

Mayor Gray included $1.25 million for project planning in his budget proposal, which is currently under review by the Urban County Council.
