LEXINGTON, Ky. – A strategic plan for Lexington's economic development future will take a little longer than expected after a local blogger found many of the plan's recommendations were identical to those given to other cities.
Texas consulting firm Angelou Economics was commissioned by city government and Commerce Lexington to develop the report at a cost of $150,000. When Ben Self of the grassroots organization ProgressLex checked a draft, he discovered sections very similar to a report written for the Pikes Peak region in Colorado.
Mayor Jim Gray called for a delay in releasing the economic development plan. An unveiling event was planned for March 18. Angelou Economics has apologized and asked for a two week extension.
