Eastern State Hospital Taps New Leader
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A psychiatrist from Indiana has been chosen to lead Eastern State Hospital at its new $129 million Lexington location.
The University of Kentucky announced on Monday that Peggy Stephens will start as chief administrative officer and chief medical officer on July 1. The Louisville native will oversee the August opening of the 239-bed hospital at UK's Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington. She'll also be an associate professor on the UK faculty.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Stephens was the key architect in medical and operational changes at Madison State Hospital and served on Indiana's Mental Health Transformation Work Group from 2005 to 2011.
Eastern State will provide acute inpatient treatment and an expanded recovery mall offering services and classes to help people transition to the community.
