Despite Loss, Chaos Erupts On State Street

One thing in Kentucky was number one last night, the Lexington Police Department.

For several hours, traffic from LPD’s dispatch had the most followers on the 5-0 Police Scanner app.  While most fans who were out watching the game headed for home after the Cat’s loss, there were hot spots and chaos still erupted on State Street.

Crowds cheered anti-UConn chants, fireworks were set off, bottles were thrown and fights broke out.  17 couch fires were set, 29 people were arrested and more than a dozen people were injured, including one person who was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a train near State Street.  About 5:00 am the Lexington Fire Department was back on State Street extinguishing a fire at an abandoned home.  The blaze is being called suspicious.
