David Williams For Governor?

David Williams

By Tony McVeigh

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Speculation continues to swirl around Kentucky Senate President David Williams, who increasingly sounds like a man who wants to be governor. In recent weeks, Williams has been stepping up his criticism of Gov. Steve Beshear, who's seeking re-election.

"I notice that he said, we passed Senate Bill 1. And it was kind of like an old hunting friend I had of mine one time. My hunting friend said we shot the bear, but who pulled the trigger? The only thing the governor had to do with Senate Bill 1 was when he had his press conference and said he was against it and killed it, originally!"

Asked whether he plans to get into the 2011 governor's race, Williams told reporters in Frankfort Tuesday, "You'll know sooner, rather than later." Among those being talked about as possible running mates for Williams, if he gets in, is former UK basketball star and Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer.
