LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – It's capitalism at its sweetest.
Two central Kentucky businesses are baking their way through the economic recession with the same unique product, but with different approaches.
BabyCakes Cupcakes opened its location in the Patchen Village Shopping Center in April 2009. It's owned and operated by Tricia and Keith Clemons.
Eight months after BabyCakes opened, Gigi's Cupcakes, a franchise based out of Tennessee, launched its store on Richmond Road.
The two bakeries are cashing in on the cupcake craze. Cupcake fans says its the size, variety of flavors, and childhood memories that make the desserts so delectable.
Despite their proximity to each other, both BabyCakes and Gigi's appear to be thriving. Each offers a different take on cupcakes, options that central Kentucky customers are gobbling up.
