Council On Postsecondary Education Gives UK Green Light For 6% Tuition Hike

LEXINGTON, Ky.  --  The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville will be able to increase tuition by up to 6 percent this fall following action by the Council on Postsecondary Education in Lexington on Friday.

The council also voted to allow 5 percent tuition hikes for the regional schools and 4 percent for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

U of L has already announced a proposed 6 percent increase, and UK said Friday it wants to do the same.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the student representative on the council, Kirby O'Donoghue, was the only member to vote against the measure.

In recommending the rates, council staff considered factors such as state funding, to be reduced by $62.6 million over the next two years, and fixed costs.
