Members of the Lexington Fayette Urban County Council approved the creation of the Midland Avenue Development Area Tuesday.
It runs along Midland Avenue from main to third street, will use financing from future tax revenue to fund new buildings and infrastructure, including a mixed use property by developer Phil Holoubek. Other projects include a 3-story parking garage and improvements to the Isaac Murphy Memorial Garden. First District Councilman Chris Ford says this will go a long way to revitalizing the East End.
"It all starts with continued community engagement, which the developers have started and we’re will hopeful that that will sustain as we go through the next few months, the next few years," he said.
The area now awaits approval by the state, and includes around $50 million in proposed development.
