Conway Releases Tax Returns, Bevin Does Not

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jack Conway has opened his personal finances by making his income tax returns available for review.  Matt Bevin, his Republican opponent in Kentucky's marquee campaign, is refusing to release his tax returns.

Conway's state and federal income tax returns show he and his wife, Elizabeth, had total income of $213,055 in 2012 and $233,421 in 2013.  Their income soared to $4.1 million in 2014 from selling massive stock holdings in Kinder Morgan Energy Partners.  The Conways reinvested nearly all those earnings in other U.S.-based energy companies.

Democrats are pouncing on Bevin's refusal to release his tax returns.  State Democratic Party Chairman Patrick Hughes calls it a "deeply troubling breach of the public's trust."

Bevin campaign manager Ben Hartman calls it a "side show" to distract from Conway's lack of policy specifics.
