Congressman Hal Rogers Lobbies KY Legislature For Anti-Meth Bill

By Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – Many cold and allergy medicines contain pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine. Legislation under consideration in Frankfort would require prescriptions for cold remedies containing pseudoephedrine, and Cong. Hal Rogers is urging passage.

"This bill is not about eliminating cold medications. It's about saving lives. And it can be done by requiring prescriptions for just 15 boxes of pseudoephedrine products."

Rogers says 137 other cold and allergy remedies, that don't contain pseudoephedrine, will be still be available over-the-counter. Despite the congressman's appeal, the legislation has a steep hill to climb. Pat Davis, wife of U.S. Congressman Geoff Davis of Kentucky, is among opponents.
