Community Health Fair Expands

Sep 6, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. - For ten years, the University of Kentucky has been presenting a Community Health Fair geared toward lower-income Lexingtonians.

The fair began as an event for Hispanic residents, but over the years became a multicultural gathering. Now, it’s simply called a Community Health Fair and is open to everyone.

"Our goal is to basically reach out to all the underprivileged sectors of our community," says Tom Vanhoose, a second year medical student at UK. He says the event has become a one-stop shop for a variety of medical tests, including, "blood pressure screenings, kidney function, hearing tests."

Women's health services and nutritional assessments will also be among the offerings.

While the event is free, registration is required. It will be held Sept. 8th from 1 to 6 PM at the UK Pharmacy Building on South Limestone. More information is at ukhealthfair.org.
