Community Action Council Readies For Poverty Forum

Sep 27, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky.  -  The Community Action Council is holding its fifth annual Poverty Forum this Friday night in Lexington.  CAC spokesman Charlie Lanter says the goal of the event is to get people talking about something outside their comfort zones.

"Whether it is locally or even in our own presidential campaign that is going on right now,  people aren't talking about poverty.  Part of the goal here is to get people to talk about poverty.  We try to bring in as many folks as we can for a night of dinner and conversation.  We will have a keynote speaker but we also want people around the table talking about poverty."

Keynote speaker this year is PBS and Public Radio personality Tavis Smiley.  He’ll be talking about his new book, The Rich and the Rest of Us.  The Poverty Forum is Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Lexington Center.
