Lexington, KY – Jack Burch, Executive Director of the Community Action Council, says financial assistance is available to citizens in desperate need.
"These would be people who are now confronting a problem. Maybe, in today's mail they received a cut-off notice from their gas company and they know they have no way of paying it and they know they've got a fourteen day clock ticking. If they can get in to us certainly at this point we've got plenty of money to assist people who meet the income guidelines. If they don't meet those federal guidelines our staff are still committed to doing the best they can to help them find other ways to keep their heat on."
Burch says residents can apply for the benefit by visiting any Community Action Council office. He says they must bring proof of income, provide a copy of their most recent heating bill or cut-off notice, as well as the names and birthdates of all household members.
