Community Action Council Announces Poverty Forum Keynote
LEXINGTON, Ky. - TV and radio host Tavis Smiley will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Poverty Forum in Lexington.
The annual event brings together community and business leaders as well as concerned citizens for a dinner and conversation about issues facing people with low incomes. Malcolm Ratchford with the Community Action Council says Smiley’s appearance will raise the profile of the event.
"He and Dr. Cornel West from Princeton University are working across the country talking about poverty and helping people reevaluate their assumptions about poverty in our country. So it's a huge, tremendous catch to have him come to Lexington, Kentucky and to have him speak to our local community," Ratchford says.
Past keynote speakers include ZNet co-editor Michael Albert and journalist Jonathan Alter. This year’s event is Friday, September 28that the Lexington Convention Center.
