Commerce Lexington Honors Local Small Businesses

Crowds packed into the Keeneland Entertainment Center Friday for Commerce Lexington’s 29th annual Salute to Small Business.

The event honored six firms in a variety of categories, including local initiative, workplace integration, and young entrepreneurship.  The award for small business of the year went to Integrated Engineering, a civil design, landscape architecture, and surveying firm involved in projects such as sidewalks on Tates Creek Road, and the connection between Harrodsburg Road and Waller Avenue.  Company Vice President Eddie Mesta said he was proud of what they’ve achieved.

“We do a lot of design initiatives for the community, and just to give back, and recognize our great staff, that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

Other notable honorees include the Downtown Lexington Corporation for its nonprofit activities and Milward Funeral Directors, which, at 190 years, is the oldest operating business in Lexington.  Commerce Lexington President and CEO Bob Quick says these and other successes represent a powerful source of economic growth.

“This room is filled with individuals who are optimists, also they’re pragmatic, and they know that we’ve got to build Lexington the right way, in a solid way.  They’re the basis for it,” he said.
