Colt Sells For $4.2 Million at Keeneland Yearling Sale

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The first night of the September Yearling Sale at Keeneland has produced the highest winning bid at the auction in four years.

A colt out of A.P. Indy sold for $4.2 million to Benjamin Leon representing Besilu Stables. The colt is the first foal of multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Balance, a half-sister to undefeated champion racemare and 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Zenyatta.

The sale occurred during Sunday's evening session, marking a change in format for Keeneland.

"We felt we needed to start the sale off with evening sessions, with the best of the yearlings, and then follow it up with a good size catalogue, but not having too many horses a day to tire people out," says Sales Director Geoffrey Russell.

The sale of featured horses in Book One will continue this evening. The September Yearling Sale runs through September 26.
