Louisville, KY – Environmental groups say states are not doing an adequate job of protecting the public from the toxins contained in coal ash and want the EPA to classify it as hazarous waste.
The coal industry, utility companies and coal waste recyclers say that would drive up costs with minimal environmental benefit.
EPA officials heard from a parade of witnesses Tuesday. The Louisville hearing was one of eight being held across the country this year by the EPA.
