Lexington, KY – Kentucky Head Football Coach Rich Brooks was first in line Thursday to donate a pint of blood as the Kentucky Blood Center kicks off its 21st annual Big Blue Crush blood drive competition. The yearly rivalry between U-K and the University of Tennessee helps ensure an adequate blood supply during the holiday season. Coach Brooks took the opportunity to remind the Big Blue Faithful that there's a great need for blood in the Commonwealth.
Tennessee has out-donated Wildcat fans for the past five blood drives. Last year's competition generated a record-breaking six-thousand units for Kentucky and Tennessee hospitals. The rivalry begins on Monday and runs through the 21st. Big Blue fans who want to donate can make an appointment at 1-800-775-2522, or visit k-y-bloodcenter-dot-org for more details.
