LEXINGTON, Ky. - A new facility on the University of Kentucky campus will help the Child Development Centers of the Bluegrass reach more kids with special needs.
The CDCB started over 50 years ago in a one-room house and then operated from a small building on Springhill Drive. The new space has 22,000 square feet with 15 classrooms.
“It’s going to allow us to serve 170 kids here for pre-school and then expand our out-patient therapy to the whole community. So it’s huge the number of kids we can serve,” says Executive Director Stella Crutcher.
The Child Development Centers serve children with and without special needs from ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.
“The real need right now is children with autism, that’s very prevalent. So we do have kids here at all points of the spectrum. We also have children with physical needs,” says Crutcher.
The new building is located on Alumni Drive near the Arboretum.
