A Celebration of Life was held for late Lexington Councilman Ed Lane Saturday.
The ceremony took place at the University of Kentucky’s Boone Center, where friends, family, and coworkers paid their respects. During the memorial service, there were live musical performances from UK Opera Director Everett McCorvey and Michael Johnathon, founder of the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour. Daughter Meredith Lane was heartened with the level of community support.
“I think it’s just such a testament of how many lives that he touched that so many people want to be here, the phone calls and the cards that we’ve gotten, the flowers and just the little notes people have sent talking about how he’s impacted their lives as a mentor, as a businessperson. Even people that might not have agreed with him on the council, they all had positive things to say. I think the biggest thing I’ve heard, the thing I’ve heard the most is that he was a true gentleman in all aspects of life, and what a compliment,” she said.
Lane passed away Sunday, August 2nd due to cancer. He is best known for founding the Lane Report, a business magazine, as well as his tenure on the urban county council, representing the 12th district from 2005 until his death.
