Case Against Serial Arsonist Goes Before A Grand Jury

A grand jury will hear the case against the man accused of burglarizing half a dozen homes before his accomplice set them on fire.

Police say that John Roth, along with a minor, broke into homes in several counties, stole things and then started fires.

Troopers arrested Roth after he was spotted trying to pawn the stolen items.  Roth has more than 60 charges of theft, according to his criminal records. In 2013, he was charged and convicted in Jefferson County for Arson third degree and Theft.

He was on parole for arson at the time of the fires. He has not been charged yet with arson in any of the house fires.

The county attorney told the Advocate Messenger that Roth could be facing even more charges as the investigation continues.
