Pursuing more eco-friendly business practices was the aim of a special conference in Lexington on Wednesday.
The first-ever Bluegrass Sustainable Business Summit is an outgrowth of Bluegrass Green Source’s “Go Green Save Green” workshop…but outreach coordinator Bridget Abernathy says the principle remains the same.
"I think a big misconception about implementing conservation measures at home or in the workplace is that you are implementing them at your own cost without a payback, and in the long run when implementation measures are taken people are able to save money. In some ways large businesses can save thousands and thousands of dollars a year based on the initiatives they take. They may have an upfront cost but a long-term payoff," explained outreach coordinator Bridget Abernathy.
Attendees heard from a variety of entrepreneurs and groups touting things like green building, recycling, urban forestry, and solar energy. The event was held at the LEED Certified Locust Trace Agri-Science Center off Leestown Road.
