Breeders Cup Could Get Tax Break In Kentucky

The Breeders' Cup could get a tax break in Kentucky after all.

The House budget committee on Thursday revived a proposed tax break for the two-day event. The races will be at Lexington's Keeneland, returning to Kentucky for the first time since 2011. The bill would exempt the track from the excise tax on pari-mutual wagering. Democratic state Rep. Rick Rand amended the bill so the tax break would expire in 2017. But Rand said lawmakers could renew the tax break if they so choose.

This will be the first year Keeneland has hosted the Breeders' Cup. Louisville's Churchill Downs has hosted the event four times since 2000.

The bill now goes to the House of Representatives. Lawmakers have about a week left to pass legislation.
