FRANKFORT, Ky. – A bill pre-filed for next year's Kentucky General Assembly session aims to establish permanent government transparency. The measure sponsored by Princeton Democrat Mike Cherry would mandate the three branches of state government post detailed financial information online. Public universities would also be affected.

"We're going to legislatively tell them to provide more information, essentially their budgets and comprehensive financial statements. To make those available online. The bill doesn't call for universities, public universities to for instance do every single expenditure like it essentially does for state government."

Cherry says many departments already post their financial information or plan to do so. He says having that policy in law would ensure transparency remains a priority.
