Bikers to Raise Money for National Guard Memorial

By Associated Press

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. – Hundreds of motorcycle riders are expected to ride from cities across the state later this month to help raise funds to build a memorial dedicated to Kentucky National Guardsmen who have died in the line of duty in the past 100 years.

The ride is scheduled for Aug. 13, and organizer Charlie Jones says officials are planning for 500 riders. Jones, who is a colonel in the Kentucky Army National Guard and a veteran of the war in Iraq, says the ride is open to anyone.

Riders will gather at the Healing Field in Lawrenceburg at noon for food and entertainment and hope to raise $70,000 for the memorial to be constructed at Boone National Guard Center.
