Big Ass Fans Sets Sales Milestone
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A Kentucky company that started out doing business as High Volume, Low Speed Fans has just made history but under a more distinct moniker.
Lexington-based Big Ass Fans has announced it has now sold in excess of 100,000 fans. That milestone was reached earlier this week. Founder and CEO Carey Smith says the company has come a long way in its 14 years.
"When we first moved here my first thought was that we were within six hundred miles of an awful lot of large cities, now we sell fans into eighty-one countries so we're sort of centrally located on the planet. That's the way we like to look at it."
Since 2009 Big Ass Fans has nearly tripled its annual revenue from 34 million to about 87 million in 2012. Smith credits the company’s recent entrance and rapid growth in residential and commercial markets for the success. Big Ass Fans employs more than 350 people at its two Lexington locations.
