Beshear To Give Tax Reform Pitch To Stumbo, Stivers Monday
Top Kentucky lawmakers say they've been asked to meet with Gov. Steve Beshear next week to hear his plans on how to revamp the state's tax code.
The meeting comes nearly a month after the governor told lawmakers in his State of the Commonwealth speech that he will present a tax modernization plan with specific recommendations.
On Friday, House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Senate President Robert Stivers confirmed the meeting between Beshear and legislative leaders is planned for Monday.
The meeting comes as lawmakers reach the one-third mark of their 60-day legislative session.
Stumbo said a proposed tax overhaul bill faces an "uphill struggle." But he said lawmakers are keeping an open mind on the issue. Stivers said the meeting is the first step in what could be a lengthy process.
