Beshear Choosing Oaks Over Obama

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – Gov. Steve Beshear will not be with President Barack Obama when he visits Fort Campbell on Friday because the trip conflicts with Beshear's Kentucky Oaks obligations.

Obama's trip was confirmed too late on Wednesday to make arrangements in Beshear's schedule, Beshear spokeswoman Kerri Richardson told the Lexington Herald-Leader. Richardson said Beshear has paid several visits to Fort Campbell and will go again as soldiers continue returning.

During the visit to Fort Campbell, Obama will meet with some of those involved in the military assault that killed Osama bin Laden, according to a White House official who requested anonymity to speak before the official announcement of Obama's meeting. Fort Campbell is home to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, which participated in the raid.
