"Beer for Books" Fundraiser to be Held at West Sixth

Aug 1, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky--- Books and reading will be the subject of a fundraiser this Saturday at West Sixth Brewery.

The "Beer for Books" event is designed to raise funds for two local charities, the Carnegie Center for Literacy and the International Book Project.  The former offers classes in writing, literacy, and other subjects, while the latter ships books to libraries, churches, and schools in the developing world.  Carnegie spokeswoman Jessica Mohler says the event will serve as a way to drum up support for both organizations.

"The idea is to raise money for our programs and to also build awareness and support.  We often call these events just as much about fundraising and fundraising.  It’s building a really great base of support to fund our future readers and writers in Lexington."

Beer for Books will have a variety of attractions, including a raffle, food trucks, and people in costumes inspired by literary figures.  The brewery will donate 6% of its sales to both charities.

The event begins at 4:00 PM on 501 West Sixth Street
