Annual Fire School Set This Week In Lexington

More than 1,200 emergency workers are expected Thursday in Lexington for four days of training.

Attendees will be trained on topics ranging from fighting fires in high rises to forestry firefighting to farm incidents.

The 85th annual Kentucky State Fire School runs through Sunday. Firefighters and first responders will be able to choose from more than 40 courses offering hands-on and classroom training.

Kentucky Fire Commission Executive Director Ronnie Day said in a news release announcing the school that firefighters today have to possess multiple skills and be prepared for challenges. Day says the school gives participants education and tools to prepare them for different kinds of fires and specialized rescues.
