All Clear Given After Gas Leak Forces Evacuation At UK

This morning, just before 8:00 a construction crew that was working near the Woodlawn Glenn Dorms on UK’s Campus hit a two-inch gas line that feeds into the buildings.

UK sent out an emergency alert and those dorms were evacuated.  University spokesman Carl Nathe said the good news was that the problem was fixed fairly quickly and there weren’t a lot of people inside. “If there’s any silver lining, it is summer time and there aren’t nearly as many people affected.  A total of about 250 people and of course that’s a much fewer number that would be here when the fall semester gets started”

A crew from Columbia Gas capped the leak and the all clear was given at 9:32 this morning.  This is the second time the line was hit by the same construction crew within two days.  The Lexington Fire Department is investigating both accidents.
