Lexington, KY – A host of dignitaries was on hand to watch the first AirTran jet taxi down the runway. The airline features low-cost service from Lexington to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Mayor Jim Newberry says the new flight options are a welcome addition for travelers in the self-proclaimed Horse Capitol of the World.

"Airtran will provide us with flights to Orlando which is close to the Ocala breeding area, and to Fort Lauderdale which is close to the racing industry in South Florida. Both of those are great connections for us to have, and Airtran's decision to expand in Lexington, in the midst of this national economic recession, is a real tribute to the strength of our local economy".

Hall of Fame Jockey and Kentucky resident, Pat Day didn't get on the plane yesterday, but he says he plans to use the service in the near future.

"I am the industry spokesperson for the Racetrack Chaplaincy of America and we just recently moved our national headquarters to Georgetown. So, we're very happy with the low fares and the opportunity to bring our people in. We'll have a convention here in Lexington in April and (will) be looking forward to taking advantage of the low fares at that time".

To help kickoff the arrangement, Airtran officials presented a check to local charity, Central Kentucky Riding for Hope.
