Additional Duties Mean Changes At Downtown Lexington Corp.

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Some new event planning duties are prompting the Downtown Lexington Corporation to make a few changes to the company's structure. Executive Director Renee Jackson says Mayor Jim Gray plans to hand over responsibility for a number of community celebrations to the DLC.

"The Fourth of July, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, the Christmas Chorus, a winter festival that's in conjunction with the tree lighting, and also the Vintage Kentucky Wine Festival. Under that plan we would coordinate those events, still very closely with the city, but it would be outside of the LFUCG at that point."

As part of the changes, Program and Services Coordinator Kathryn Minton is now Vice President of Business Development, and Downtown Bike Liaison Tamara Deckard is now the second on-staff Events Coordinator. Jackson says former LFUCG Special Events Coordinator Penny Ebel has been retained as a consultant as well.

"We felt like there was great institutional knowledge there with Penny with her time with the city. The Fourth of July Festival alone needs somebody to shepherd it along. Not that we couldn't have done it, but it will certainly make our lives easier and we'll be more effective by having here knowledge there in our office."

The Downtown Lexington Corporation is not responsible for planning the Spotlight Lexington Festival, but Jackson says director Beth Thomas will have office space in the DLC headquarters.
