Democratic 6th District Congressional candidate Elisabeth Jensen is pledging to get her health coverage through the state’s exchange if elected.

The promise was part of a five-point pledge she signed at the opening of her new campaign headquarters Monday.

At the gathering marking Jensen’s new home base next to the Fayette County Democratic Party headquarters on South Broadway, the candidate invited her challenger, Congressman Andy Barr, to sign a pledge rejecting a number of perks, including taxpayer-funded campaign-style mailers and first class air travel.

She also promised to purchase insurance through Kynect if she wins in November. Jensen told WUKY she’d like to see more of her fellow Democrats stand behind the Affordable Care Act.

"I believe it's really a win-win for everybody and I think it's time Democrats stand up and embrace it," Jensen said.

So far, Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes has offered muted praise of the health reform law, stressing that it’s still in need of a number of fixes.

Congressman Barr has voted repeatedly to repeal the ACA, citing concerns about rising premiums, lost coverage for those with non-compliant plans, and cuts to Medicare.

Hear Jensen's complete comments below.
