49 Percent Projected To Vote In Midterms

Only about half of registered voters in Kentucky are expected to step inside a voting booth Tuesday.

That's according to Secretary of State and Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Despite months of speeches, millions spent on ads, and a marquee Senate race situated in the Bluegrass, Grimes’ office projects that just 49 percent of eligible Kentuckians will likely cast their ballots. In a press release, Grimes says midterm turnout has hovered around the halfway mark since 2006.

By October 27, 22,390 voters had taken advantage of absentee voting in county clerks’ offices while 21,598 absentee ballots have been sent out. About 3.1M people are registered to vote in Kentucky.
