Josh James

Reporter / Webmaster

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now known as Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and Program Director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.

In 2003, he joined WUKY as a part-time reporter and weekend announcer. He's earned several awards from the Kentucky Associated Press, including Best Radio Documentary in 2005. An avid music fan raised on The Beatles and British Invasion rock, James also enjoyed a stint in the programming department, hosting WUKY's Rock & Roots from 11-1 pm weekdays.  He currently works as a reporter and webmaster for the station. When he's off duty, James enjoys songwriting, philosophy, and kicking back with his cat, Brooklyn.

Residence Hall Groundbreaking Officially Launches Unique UK Partnership

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The first bit of dirt has been turned on the University of Kentucky’s first new residence hall since 2005. As Josh James reports, the hall is considered Phase I of a project that could become the largest public/private partnership of its kind at a major university.

Mayor's Budget Includes Money For Rupp, No Major Tax Increases

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray presented his $289 million dollar budget for fiscal year 2013 Tuesday afternoon. The plan includes no broad-based tax increases, but relies on a projected three percent growth in employee withholdings over the next year.

The mayor’s speech focused largely on two themes: shared sacrifice and creating what he called “a great American city.” Gray struck a cautiously optimistic tone as he touted projects like the new 21c Museum Hotel announced earlier in the day and the state dollars allocated for the Rupp Arena arts district.

Donors And Recipients Observe Donate Life Month

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Organ and tissue donors and recipients gathered with doctors and nurses with UK Healthcare to recognize a special month on their calendars. 

A new flag flies below the stars and stripes in front of UK Chandler Hospital. It reads “Donate Life,” highlighting April status as Donate Life Month, an effort to bolster organ donor registries across the country. More than 800 Kentucky residents are on waiting lists for life-saving organs. Teresa Schladt was lucky enough to receive a liver five years ago.
