Autopsy: Judge's Death Linked To Shots

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  -- A forensic pathologist says an autopsy shows a Kentucky judge's death was linked to tainted steroid shots at a Tennessee clinic.  George Nichols II performed the autopsy of Eddie Lovelace's body at the request of the judge's family.

Nichols said Wednesday the seemingly routine shots Lovelace received for neck and back pain contained a fungus. Nichols said the fungus caused a blood vessel infection, which in turn caused a stroke and Lovelace's eventual death.

Election Chief Predicts Record-Level Voting In Ky.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is expecting a record number of voters to cast ballots in next week's general election.

Grimes, the top state election officer, said Tuesday that legislative races seem to be generating enthusiasm among Kentucky voters. The presidential race, a competitive congressional race in central Kentucky and a heated Supreme Court race in eastern Kentucky also have voters revved.

Sandy's Fury Spurs Gov. Beshear To Declare State Of Emergency For Ky.

  FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Governor Steve Beshear has declared a state of emergency in Kentucky in the snowy wake of Hurricane Sandy, which has dumped up to a foot of snow on portions of the state's mountain region.

Beshear said in an emergency declaration Tuesday that the storm has caused an emergency of national scope in the state.

Beshear signed an executive order Monday expediting the transportation of emergency supplies to storm victims.

Williams Nominated For Judgeship In Southern Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky.  --  Senate President David Williams is among nominees a panel recommended to Gov. Steve Beshear on Thursday for an open judgeship in southern Kentucky.

Williams, a Republican, has said he's interested in the position. The appointment ultimately would be made by the Democratic governor who has said he'd consider Williams for the job.
