Kentucky Wildlife Commission Expands Bear Hunting Season

FRANKFORT, Ky.    Hunters persuaded the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission on Monday to unanimously support a proposal to set aside six weeks to chase black bears with dogs, including one week when the bruins they corner can be shot.

US Appeals Court Backs Graphic Cigarette Labels

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A federal appeals court has upheld a law requiring new, bigger graphic warning labels on cigarette packs. 

The lawsuit was filed in Kentucky. It's one of two suits by tobacco companies against the federal rules that would make them slap large images on cigarette packs depicting the health ravages of smoking.

The other case has so far resulted in a federal judge in Washington blocking the new requirement, arguing last month it violated free speech. That decision is being appealed by the government.

FRANKFORT, Ky.    Hunters have persuaded the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission to take another look at a proposal to set aside a week each year for shooting a limited number of bears that dogs have chased up trees or cornered on the ground.

House Quickly Passes Transportation Budget

FRANKFORT, Ky.   The House has passed a two-year, $3.5 billion transportation budget that would pay for road and bridge construction across the state.

That action came Friday morning on an 88-4 vote one day after the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee sent it to the floor.

The plan would funnel money to several major projects already under way, including widening dangerous stretches of Interstate 65 in western Kentucky and the Mountain Parkway in the east.

It also provides a portion of the money needed to build two new Ohio River bridges in Louisville.

George Clooney & Father Arrested In Protest At Sudanese Embassy

WASHINGTON.   Actor George Clooney and his father have been arrested at a protest outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington.

The protesters accuse Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, of provoking a humanitarian crisis and blocking food and aid from entering the Nuba Mountains in the county's border region with South Sudan.
