Beshear's Office Going Over Spending Cut Proposals

Frankfort, KY – Spending reduction proposals from state agencies and universities are pouring in to the governor's budget office. Governor Beshear will use the information to craft a plan for addressing a projected 456-million dollar revenue shortfall. After that, he will take his plan to the people. "I want to get out in some locations and reach as broadly as I can our people to explain to them what our situation is. And then, show them some of the options that we've got."

Energy Efficiency Expert Says KY Needs To Wean Itself Off Coal-Build Wind Turbines Instead

Lexington, KY – Glenn Cannon, is a past chair of the American Public Power Association and until recently was the General Manager of a Light and Power Company in Waverly, Iowa. Cannon says Iowa has tried to wean itself off coal-fired power plants, by building wind turbines. He thinks Kentucky could, and should do the same.

Beshear Remains Hopeful Despite Tumultuous First Year

Frankfort, KY – Staring Governor Beshear in the face when he took office last December was a 400-million dollar revenue shortfall. In the last year, things have gone from bad to worse and another round of budget cuts is pending. But despite all the gloom and doom, Beshear remains confident better times are ahead. "We can all get down in the doldrums and just worry about things as they are, but part of my job is to look at things as they can be and should be and help our people get there."

MoveOn.Org To Hold Obama Event In Lexington On Sunday

Lexington, Ky – The political action group Moveon.org is holding an event in Lexington this weekend in an effort to show support for President-Elect Obama while also encouraging him to keep his major campaign promises. Regional Coordinator Debbie Stoops says people are invited to come to Common Grounds Coffee House Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, sign a petition, and have their picture taken.

Kentucky State Police Sergeant Fired

Frankfort, KY – A six-member Kentucky State Police Trial Board has found Sgt. Corey Buckner guilty of four violations of KSP standards of conduct. Called into question were his honesty, conformance to law and responsibility as a ranking officer.

The trial board says the charges concerned misconduct involving officer training records at the Bowling Green post, where Buckner was assigned.
