KY Electoral Votes Cast For McCain

Frankfort, KY – Democratic Senator Barack Obama may be the President-elect, but all eight of Kentucky's Electoral College votes went to Republican Senator John McCain on Arizona. That's because McCain carried Kentucky by more than 300-thousand votes. Elector James Snider of Franklin represents Kentucky's 1st Congressional District. "It's exciting to be part of history and know that your name and your vote is going to be recorded in the federal register, and that you'll be a part of history."

Legislative Leaders React To Beshear Plan

Frankfort, KY – Speaker Jody Richards says the House, which passed a 25-cent cigarette tax hike this year only to see it fail in the Senate, is on record as supporting new revenue for the state.

"We provided strong leadership by passing a cigarette tax to fund education, human services and other essential state government services in the last session."

Tobacco Tax Hike, Some Cuts Part Of Beshear's Budget Deficit Reduction Plan

Frankfort, KY – With the state facing a 456-million dollar revenue shortfall, Governor Beshear wants to raise the cigarette tax from 30-cents to one dollar per pack. But he says it would be April before the tax could start generating revenue. "We wouldn't have a full year's source of revenue there. It would produce, we estimate about 81-point-five million dollars."
